Feast day Mass — 5:30 p.m. Aug. 2 at Franciscan Renewal Center in Scottsdale (map). The center's worship space is also a conventual church, which means it belongs to the convent of a the religious community rather than the physical diocese in which it resides. The Casa's Our Lady of the Angels Conventual Church will celebrate its feast day with a special liturgy. A community dinner follows, but registration for that has lapsed.
Give Blood — Aug. 4 at St. Jerome (7 a.m.-3 p.m.) and at St. Helen in Glendale (8:45 a.m.-1:45 p.m.).
Installation Mass — 11:30 a.m. Aug. 4 at St. Mary Magdalene in Gilbert (map). Bishop Thomas J. Olmsted will formally install Fr. Will Schmid as pastor during the regular liturgy. This will mark Fr. Schmid's first official appointment as pastor since his ordination in 2009.
Seminarian BBQ — Aug. 4 at Mount Claret. Local Serra Clubs and the Venturing Crew host the annual summer farewell for seminarians headed on retreat and then back to one of four seminaries.
O Canada — Aug. 3-4 in Canada parishes. The 26-member Filipino Catholic Community Choir, with vocalists in their 30s-70s, will offer a concert at parishes in Mississauga and Toronto with funds helping establish a Theresian Carmelite Centre of Spirituality and Education. The choir regularly sings at the weekly Mass in Filipino at Our Lady of the Valley Parish and at the diocesan Diversity masses.
