Many parishes offer the opportunity to spiritually adopt an unborn baby at some point throughout the year.
They’re well-intended efforts that are often followed up with bulletin announcements about a baby’s development. There’s usually an opportunity to support a local crisis pregnancy center or loving home for women who are pregnant or newly parenting moms with no real system of loving support.
There’s a similar alternative for younger Catholics not yet versed in the art of bulletin reading, but eager to make new discoveries online and through the guidance of their parents or older siblings.
Holy Heroes, a Catholic family apostolate dedicated to bringing the joy of the faith to the family, created a spiritual adoption program aimed at young Catholics. It begins Sept. 8, the feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and ends June 3, the Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus. Thousands of families and students joined in its previous “Prayer Adventure” last spring.
