The College of St. Scholastica recently hired five new experienced team members to support continued expansion the college is experiencing across Greater Phoenix. The distinguished new faculty and staff bring decades of social work, nursing and college campus management experience to serve the college’s growing student population.
Beverly Thomas-Carter joins The College of St. Scholastica as a faculty member for the Doctor of Nursing Practice program. She has more than 33 years of nursing experience as a psychiatric and mental health nurse practitioner and a family nurse practitioner. Thomas-Carter owns and operates her own medical clinic in central Phoenix and is the medical director for the Phoenix Dram Center. She also has extensive academic experience, having taught for ten years in various nursing programs around the country. Thomas-Carter is also very active in her community, volunteering as a medical director for the Pop Warner Football Association and participating in community health fairs and events.
Kathy Trujillo is the new assistant professor and field program coordinator. She has been a social worker since 2004 and has extensive experience in child welfare, having worked with the Department of Child Safety and the Office of Refugee Resettlement. More recently, she began working on medical social work, serving as a social worker for Gila River Healthcare and Banner Health. Trujillo will lead efforts to place students at internships with social work agencies throughout Maricopa County for hands-on field experiences.
Also joining The College of St. Scholastica is Aileen Moore, who brings more than two decades of social work experience working with homeless, immigrant communities, unaccompanied minors, foster programs and children developmentally disabled. She has practiced in New York City, Juarez, Mexico and most recently Phoenix, where she was the director of the Unaccompanied Minor Program for Catholic Charities.
Additionally, Lisa Aguilar, campus manager, and Ashley Perez, administrative assistant, started earlier in September supporting the continued growth in the Arizona community. Aguilar is a passionate advocate for higher education with strong ties to the local Catholic and Hispanic communities. She is also an active member of Prospanica (National Society of Hispanic MBAs,) where she serves as student mentor and Phoenix chapter board secretary.
Perez is working toward her bachelor’s degree in history and holds two associate degrees.
