Iconography Retreat
“Christ is the image, the icon of the Invisible God.” (Colossians)
The early Christians faced a challenge: how to make an image of Christ, who is both human and divine without emphasizing one nature to the extent that the other was lost. Human and divine. Iconography attempts to convey both in a disciplined and intentional way. During our time together, we will walk through the ancient process of creating an icon of the face of Christ, using this image which was created by a contemporary master as our guide. No experience or artistic ability is required. Come and pray, paint, and enjoy the experience of learning more about Byzantine icon painting. All materials are provided
We work Thursday evening after dinner, Friday evening after dinner, all day Saturday (9 am – 4 pm), and half-day Sunday (1 – 4 pm). There will be additional times available to work on a second icon for those who are interested. This is completely optional.
Fee: Single, $600 includes meals and lodging; Commuter, $400 includes 2 dinners and 1 lunch. Pre-registration required.
