Kick-off program for the Formation of Conscience: Living Our Baptismal Call in the World, FIA Fall Series
The “consistent ethic of life” proposed by Cardinal Joseph Bernardin in 1983 is the official position claimed by the U.S. bishops in their guide for Catholic voters, “Faithful Citizenship”. The idea was absorbed into the papal magisterium by Pope John Paul II in Evangelium Vitae (“The Gospel of Life”). Despite those facts, the consistent ethic of life remains controversial among some people and is, generally, poorly understood. The upcoming election and our civic responsibility challenge us to make difficult and important choices, nationally as well as locally. Join us to learn more about the consistent ethic of life; and discuss how it helps form our conscience as Catholics in response to our baptismal call.
