Saint Francis wanted to see with his own eyes
the simplicity, poverty and humility
of Jesus’ birth.
With the help of the townspeople of Greccio, Italy
a manger was constructed in a forest clearing.
Mangers are still assembled to this day as part of
our Christmas tradition to recall St. Francis’ vision
and to celebrate the humble birth.
