“St. Francis ‘Lived in the Scriptures’: The Biblical Roots of Franciscan Spirituality”
A program presented in partnership with Franciscan School of Theology
One of St. Francis’ earliest biographers, Thomas of Celano, tells us that Francis “lived in the Scriptures.” We see an intense focus on the Gospels within the writings of St. Francis. The Synoptic Gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke are very important for their missionary zeal. The disciples are on a journey of preaching, teaching, and healing with Jesus. St. Francis and his disciples were also on a journey. The Gospel of John injects the Holy Spirit into this journey in a manner that focuses us on community. This Gospel inspiration matches up with an emphasis on deeds and concrete details over abstract ideas. We will discover how much St. Francis was motivated by a biblical vision.
No fee and no registration required. Program will be in the Auditorium.
