Franciscan Lenten Conversations: St. Marianne Cope

Two Mondays of Lent on Zoom
March 11 and 18,2024 6:30 – 8:15 pm

If the weeks have slipped by or if your Lenten practice needs refreshed, take
advantage of this opportunity. For two Monday evenings in mid-Lent we will
take time to pause and reflect on our spiritual journeys. We will use readings
from the “Lent 2024 Daily reflections with Saint Marianne Cope,” published
by Franciscan Media. Our time together will include contemplative prayer,
scripture and conversation. And perhaps, during this time of prayer, we too
will feel Lenten grace.

Marianne Cope, TOSF, also known as Saint Marianne of Moloka’i (January 23, 1838 – August
9, 1918), was a member of the Sisters of St Francis of Syracuse, New York, and founding
leader of its St. Joseph’s Hospital in the city. In1883 she relocated with six other sisters to
Hawai’i to care for persons suffering leprosy on the island of Moloka’i and aid in developing
the medical infrastructure in Hawai’i. Despite direct contact with the patients over many
years, she did not contract the disease. She was canonized on October 21, 2012.
