Dr. MaryRuth Hackett is a prolific writer, speaker, and podcast host covering topics in psychology and faith. She earned a PhD in Educational Psychology in Educational Psychology with a concentration in Lifespan Development while conducting research on a variety of topics ranging from human cognition and aging to family literacy. Her real academic love, however, is anything to do with identity development.
So when she converted to Catholicism in 2006, Dr. Hackett found herself re-examining concepts of identity through the lens of faith. As a result, her scholarship now brings together psychology and faith in a practical and applicable way to help others understand the beauty of their design. She is a contributing author on a number of books and devotions and writes regularly for both Blessed is She and Spiritualdirecton.com. Daughter by Design: Discovering Your Identity as God’s Beloved Daughter, her first book, was released in the Fall of 2022.
Six years ago, the Diocese of Phoenix invited Dr. Hackett to work with the office of communications to create a parenting podcast. Parenting Smarts Podcast is now in its fifth season with over 70 topic-driven episodes. The podcast offers parenting tips and insights based on theory, research, faith, and Dr. Hackett’s practical experience as a wife and stay-at-home mother to four children who, at the time, ranged in age from four to thirteen.
Dr. Hackett writes and speaks at the important intersection of faith and developmental science, blending them in the original harmony God intended. Daughter by Design, her new book on identity for Catholic women, is the only book of its kind bringing together these fields in a practical way. In a culture swirling with increasing confusion around meaning and identity, Daughter by Design provides women with a retreat from the chaos of life and a way to connect with the daughter within and our Heavenly Father above.
Come hear Dr. Hackett speak on February 11, 2023. In her talk, Parenting the Heart, Dr. Hackett will provide insight into the current mental health crisis. She will also discuss how to best approach suffering in our families and how we can raise resilient children without hardening their hearts.
All for His Glory,
