Summer Symposium 2024: Christian Spirituality

About the Symposium
Join us for an in-depth course on Christian Spirituality, designed for anyone looking to learn more about this topic, be personally renewed and deepen their spiritual life.

Course Description
Christian Spirituality is designed to open the student to the themes of holiness in Scripture and to point out the different Fathers of the Church and other spiritual masters and the uniqueness in their spirituality. The course will also investigate some modern authors in the spiritual life and provide the principles of growth in holiness, their applications to historical and cultural situations, and their implications concerning life in the modern world.

In particular, this course will discuss:

– Prayer – A basic overview of methods will be discussed including Lectio Divina, Contemplative Prayer, and models for Daily Prayer.
– Discernment – Basic principles on how to discern God’s will for your life will be presented including Ignatian Discernment.
– Spiritual Warfare – An approach to deliverance ministry will be explicated and various spiritual protection prayers will be presented.
– Lives of the Saints – Review how the Saints taught, practiced, and persevered through prayer, discernment, and spiritual warfare.

About the Instructors

Fr. Ignatius Mazanowski, STD

Father Ignatius Mazanowski graduated with a Master of Arts in Theology from St. Meinrad School of Theology in 2004. He attended seminary at The Catholic University of America and was ordained in 2011. He completed his doctorate in Moral Theology from Santa Croce, Rome, Italy, in 2016.

Father Mazanowski has extensive training and experience in healing ministry. He is on the board for Restore Dignity, which sponsors 6-day Grief to Grace retreats in the Diocese of Phoenix. He is also partnering with Witness to Love counseling center in Phoenix, Arizona, to pioneer the Spiritual Healing Program. Additionally, Father Mazanowski completed a three-year (2018-2020) spiritual direction program through the Institute of Priestly Formation.

Father Mazanowski serves as the Pastor of St. John Vianney Parish and the Chapel of the Holy Cross, both are located in Sedona, Arizona. He is also the Director of Medical Ethics and the Chaplain to the Catholic Medical Association in the Diocese of Phoenix.

Rae-Mi LeRoy, MA

Rae-Michelle LeRoy is the Director of Media Evangelization at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Sedona, Arizona and is completing a Master of Arts in Theology and Christian Ministry at Franciscan University of Steubenville.

Tuition
– Participants Doing Homework: $450
– $300 for Current High School Upperclassmen/College/University Students

To receive college credit, an additional charge of $150 per student will be made directly to Franciscan University of Steubenville. Details will be made available at the start of the course. This course counts for ‘THE 409 Christian Spirituality’ at Franciscan University of Steubenville. Be sure to check with your college regarding the acceptance of these credits.

For those doing homework and interested in continuing education hours, 126 hours of continuing education are available.

Audit (No Homework): $150.
