Just as the Jewish people wandered in the desert for 40 years, so had the Black Catholic community of the Diocese of Phoenix before then Bishop Thomas J. Olmsted formally erected St. Josephine Mission Parish in June of last year. One year later, the community celebrated its Founders Day — the Solemnity of the Founding of a Parish.

From Babe Ruth’s support of Catholic orphanages to Roberto Clemente’s tragic death during a Catholic relief mission to Nicaragua, Major League Baseball’s Catholic roots run deep. Continuing that tradition, three recent alumni from Seton Catholic Preparatory High School in Chandler, credit their Catholic faith in helping them get drafted in Major League Baseball’s annual amateur draft, held this year July 9-11.

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Phoenix received a high honor on Sunday, being named one of the “2023 Top Workplaces,” according to a special report in The Arizona Republic newspaper.  The special recognition is the result of an employee survey given to nearly 5,000 organizations across Arizona, with the Diocese of Phoenix ranked 20th in the “Large Companies” category.

Bishop John Dolan celebrated a special Mass on Saturday morning for the Legion of Mary at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Phoenix.  The Mass kicked-off a day of reflection for the lay Catholic group who serve the Church and their neighbors in nearly 170 countries.

Seton Catholic Prep has begun construction on a new air conditioning project for McMahon Gymnasium as part of their larger efforts to build a brand-new Event Center on campus. “Part of the vision for Seton Catholic includes what our facilities and grounds will look like in 2027 when we celebrate 70 years. The community response has been great with over $5 million in grants and donations over the past three years to modernize our campus through various improvement projects. Adding air conditioning to McMahon Gym supports this vision and we are all excited to start the next school year with this becoming a reality by the first day of classes in August.” Victor Serna, principal, said.
